Rapid Sequence Induction  (RSI) - Assistants Programme

This full-day course is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to effectively assist in rapid sequence induction (RSI) procedures. RSI is a critical intervention used in emergency and controlled settings to secure the airway while minimizing the risk of aspiration. This course emphasizes teamwork, attention to detail, and adherence to current best practices and national guidelines, including those from the Difficult Airway Society (DAS).

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the indications, contraindications, and risks associated with RSI.

  2. Demonstrate the ability to prepare and organize RSI equipment and medications systematically.

  3. Identify the roles and responsibilities of an RSI assistant within the multidisciplinary team.

  4. Administer critical drugs under supervision and manage their effects.

  5. Recognize and respond to complications, including failed intubation and airway emergencies.

  6. Communicate effectively with team members during high-pressure scenarios.

  7. Apply knowledge and skills in simulated practical sessions and case-based scenarios.
